Explosion of a 20-inch natural-gas pipeline near La Boca, New Mexico, ignites vegetation and produces a loud sound
A 20-inch Harvest Midstream natural-gas pipeline exploded on Tuesday afternoon near La Boca, New Mexico, with flames reaching an estimated 50 to 100 feet into the air and causing nearby brush and trees to ignite.
The explosion occurred without immediate mention of casualties, with residents describing the sound as resembling an F-16 taking off in a neighbor’s yard—a detail consistent with the intensity of the blast.
The incident resulted in widespread brush fires, demonstrating how infrastructure failures can trigger ecological consequences. The scale of the event, including the vertical flame column, reflects the physical impact of the explosion.
