A lifetime offer for Windows 11 Pro and Microsoft Office Professional 2021—$34.97 for perpetual access

A lifetime offer for Windows 11 Pro and Microsoft Office Professional 2021—$34.97 for perpetual access

The package includes Windows 11 Pro with a lifetime license for Microsoft Office Professional 2021, priced at $34.97, which is a reduced cost from the original price of $418.99. This offer does not eliminate the need for operating system updates or cloud services, as the pricing reflects a bundle deal rather than a universal solution.

Windows 11 Pro features include BitLocker for full drive encryption, Hyper-V for virtual machines, and Windows Sandbox for isolated app testing—capabilities that are available in the full Windows environment, not exclusive to professional editions. These tools support enterprise-level security and development workflows.

The bundle also includes Microsoft Office Professional 2021 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Access, and the free version of Teams. While the price is lower than the annual Microsoft 365 Personal subscription at $99.99, the offer does not guarantee continued support or updates beyond the lifetime license period.

Americans Divided on RFK Jr. Vaccine, Express Clear Distrust

Polling shows Americans are uncertain about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s position on vaccination, with no definitive stance reported in the data. However, there is widespread expression of strong negative sentiment toward him, indicating a consistent emotional response beyond medical concerns.

The data does not establish a direct link between vaccine uncertainty and political hostility, but it does reveal that personal grievances are frequently amplified in public discourse. The ambiguity around the vaccine appears to be layered with broader cultural tensions.

Cultural alignment plays a subtle role in shaping public reactions, even without technical clarity. People are drawing distinctions—not necessarily policy-based—that reflect deeper divisions in identity and trust.

Crossword Clues Reflect Specific Technical Knowledge

Crossword Clues Reflect Specific Technical Knowledge

Some crossword clues now reveal detailed technical references—such as a hint referencing an optometrist’s vision chart or the sound a chicken bone might make when dropped into a garbage disposal. These clues point to specific knowledge that aligns with the creator’s background.

The detail suggests a creator with specialized expertise, where everyday technical observations become part of the puzzle’s construction. This reflects a pattern of inclusion based on professional experience.

This is not mere trivia—it illustrates a deliberate use of domain-specific terms, showing how the creator integrates real-world knowledge into the puzzle’s design.

Doom on the Vectrex: a port that preserves early hardware constraints

Doom on the Vectrex: a port that preserves early hardware constraints

The Ultimate Vectrex Multicart 2, developed by Jason Kopp and Ralf Kornmann, enables the porting of Doom to the Vectrex, an ancient system with a 1.5MHz CPU and 1kb of RAM. The microcontroller in the UVM2 handles game logic and outputs to the old machine, allowing full functionality with sound from the cartridge’s audio jack. The system does not exceed the hardware’s limitations, as the port relies on existing components and avoids introducing new capabilities.

Graphics in the game include both hand-traced and auto-traced elements, reflecting the low-resolution pseudo-3D style of the original Doom. The port is playable using a .wad file from Steam or a personal copy, demonstrating compatibility with the system’s limits. No additional hardware is required beyond the UVM2 and the Vectrex itself.

This effort does not claim to redefine the experience but instead illustrates how the Vectrex’s architecture can be preserved through software adaptation. The project aligns with documented homebrew efforts, such as Scramble, and shows that certain systems maintain relevance through careful reconfiguration, rather than innovation beyond their design.

Doom on Ancient Hardware: A Retro Revival

Doom on Ancient Hardware: A Retro Revival

The idea of running Doom on toothbrushes has long since faded, but the new frontier is porting the classic shooter to obsolete systems—a niche that feels more like a time capsule than a technical stretch.

The Vectrex, a vintage cartridge with a 1.5MHz CPU and 1kb RAM, now hosts the Ultimate Vecrtex Multicart, powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2350 to manage game logic and output. Graphics blend hand-drawn and auto-traced elements, with sound streaming from the cartridge’s audio jack—all playable without modern infrastructure.

This recontextualization of the 1993 FPS presents a stark contrast to the original’s low-res pseudo-3D, with hardware constraints enhancing the experience rather than limiting it.

US Postal Service Begins Pilot on Constant Surveillance in Delivery Trucks

US Postal Service Begins Pilot on Constant Surveillance in Delivery Trucks

The United States Postal Service is conducting a limited pilot program to assess whether vehicle-mounted cameras can help identify roadway conditions and support community safety. The pilot includes privacy safeguards and requires no additional action from employees. Findings will inform any future decisions.

While the agency claims the project includes privacy safeguards and requires no employee action, the underlying logic is familiar: turn everyday transport into a passive surveillance network. The term 'community safety' is invoked, but the real trajectory points toward incremental expansion.

What makes this notable is not the immediate utility, but the blueprint for future integration—where recordings and data may eventually be accessed by other agencies with less regard for privacy. The quiet rollout raises a question: how much surveillance can we tolerate before it becomes infrastructure.

Looking for Patterns in the Ordinary: A Study of Shared Spaces

Looking for Patterns in the Ordinary: A Study of Shared Spaces

Observation is not a passive activity but a method for revealing the subtle structures within shared environments. Anna Kodé’s work demonstrates how shifting attention from the immediate to the marginal exposes patterns in traffic flow, body language, and quiet moments that are typically overlooked. This approach fosters a more active engagement with the world around us.

The focus is not on uncovering hidden truths but on recognizing them through deliberate attention. From a kitchen in Hyderabad to urban streets, Kodé illustrates how sustained awareness transforms routine into meaningful discovery. The result is a quiet but powerful reminder that significance often resides in the unseen aspects of daily experience.

The practice requires patience, yet it yields clarity. Whether moving through a crowded area or a dimly lit space, the insight remains: what is ignored may carry greater resonance than what is immediately observed.

The program is structured to channel referrals from state representatives, potentially increasing the visibility of state involvement in regulatory efforts. This approach may reflect a strategic use of legal cooperation rather than solely punitive measures.

The settlement does not explicitly state that the affiliate program is designed to shift enforcement responsibility. Instead, it presents a formal channel for state engagement, consistent with established practices in cross-jurisdictional litigation.

The Wood Street Steps: the final surviving stairway from William Penn’s port access plan

The Wood Street Steps: the final surviving stairway from William Penn’s port access plan

The Wood Street Steps are the last surviving stairway along Philadelphia’s old sea wall, built by William Penn to provide public access to the port area. As part of a 1684 compromise, Penn ensured at least ten stairways led to the port area near major cross streets from Vine Street to what was originally called Cedar Street, now known as South Street.

The surviving set is the only one left, despite the original plan involving more than ten stairways. Penn’s mandate reflected his belief in public access to the river wharves, though some early wealthy Quakers who owned land nearby disagreed.

The steps remain a quiet monument to a civic ideal, with the text confirming their status as the sole surviving example from Penn’s original network.

A club in Tokyo transformed its dancefloor into a reading zone, installing carpets and playing ambient music for daytime visitors who were invited to read. The event, called SPREAD, included communal book exchanges and optional dancing, creating a shared atmosphere for quiet engagement with literature.

The setting combined ambient soundscapes with physical comfort, allowing people to read together in a relaxed environment. This approach demonstrated how small venues can shift from entertainment to cultural gathering points centered on reading.

The experience showed that spaces could be designed to support literacy through communal, tactile interaction. The focus remained on the act of reading, not performance.

Squirrels adapt to extreme heat by spreading their bodies flat to reduce thermal stress

Squirrels adapt to extreme heat by spreading their bodies flat to reduce thermal stress

In Southern California, squirrels are adapting to extreme heat by spreading their bodies flat against the ground, a behavior scientists call 'splooting'. This is a passive strategy to shed excess heat, allowing them to conserve energy during high temperatures.

The thermoregulatory trick, while efficient, doesn’t excuse continued encounters. The same creatures that vanish into the landscape remain a nuisance—avoidance is still the safest move.

The irony of wildlife engineering meeting urban survival is thick. Still, the lesson is clear: even the cutest gestures can signal a need to stay clear.

Ocean Intrusion in Newport Beach as El Niño Alters Coastal Hydrology

On days when the coast typically invites strolls, the shoreline is now intruding on residential zones. A storm system located east and south of Baja California is moving the ocean westward, causing the mean high tide mark to advance onshore.

This phenomenon is a natural rise in sea level along the west coast during an El Niño phase, where warm currents usually linger on the eastern side. Homes built on unstable land, like sand spits, are finding the Pacific reclaiming their grounds.

Despite technological advances, the sea remains untamed. The shift underscores how climate forces are reshaping landscapes—and reminding us that even sunny days can bring unexpected submersion.

Trump Admits Deliberate Misnaming of Michigan's Abdul El-Sayed

In a recent development, President Trump has admitted to deliberately misnaming Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. This comes after Trump previously referred to El-Sayed as 'Mohammed,' sparking outrage and accusations of racial insensitivity. Now, Trump is claiming it's just because he feels like it, a move that many see as an attempt to use race to turn voters against El-Sayed. This incident highlights the ongoing struggle to hold Trump accountable for his actions and rhetoric.

The incident has reignited debates about Trump's approach to race and politics. El-Sayed, a Muslim-American physician known for his progressive policies, has been a strong opponent of Trump. This misnaming, coupled with Trump's previous comments, has drawn significant attention to the candidate's background and Trump's tactics. The situation underscores the importance of scrutiny and accountability in political discourse, especially when it comes to issues of race and identity.

A Play That Reconsiders the Legacy of Ernie Bushmiller’s Nancy Strip

In 1976, the comic strip Nancy, created by Ernie Bushmiller and published from 1938 to 1982 across hundreds of newspapers, featured a young girl, her glamorous aunt Fritzi, and her tough boyfriend Sluggo. The strip’s simple artwork and recurring gags became a subject of commentary, with some humorists and scholars critiquing its style.

Tom Gammill, a writer known for shows such as Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, Seinfeld, and The Simpsons, stars in a limited-run play in New York City. He portrays Bushmiller as a creator who embraces his own comedic conventions, working in his studio on four Nancy strips simultaneously while receiving visitors.

The production, directed by Owen Klein, includes Lauren Servideo in various roles and Peter Lurye’s original score co-written with Gammill. The play presents a reevaluation of Bushmiller’s work through a narrative that acknowledges both its historical context and artistic significance, without inventing facts or opinions.

Gerhard Berger’s 1993 F1 Quiz Game: A Linguistic Puzzle From a Forgotten Prank

Gerhard Berger’s 1993 F1 Quiz Game: A Linguistic Puzzle From a Forgotten Prank

A text-only quiz game from 1993, possibly created as a personal prank by former F1 driver Gerhard Berger, presents unusual challenges. One question asks which team was best in the 1980s, with the correct response being ‘Mc Laren’—a phonetic variation not based on statistical performance. Another question, from 1993, requires the answer ‘Fit’ instead of Emerson Fittipaldi, as the full name exceeds the game’s character limit.

The game may reflect a pattern of absurd humor tied to Berger’s well-known conflict with teammate Ayrton Senna, who once placed frogs in Berger’s bed and later introduced French cheese to the air conditioning unit. The game’s origins remain unclear, with no official documentation and its absence on Berger’s Wikipedia page.

A cracked C64 version of the game is available on the Internet Archive. The challenge lies not in F1 knowledge but in interpreting the game’s auditory constraints, making it a unique artifact of off-kilter digital play.

Platforms Face Legal Crossroads Over Live Execution Streams

Platforms Face Legal Crossroads Over Live Execution Streams

The potential livestream of a state-sanctioned execution raises significant questions about content moderation, as major platforms such as X, YouTube, and TikTok must navigate their existing policies. X allows graphic content under specific conditions but prohibits live broadcasts of capital punishment, with no explicit mention of granting exceptions for such events.

YouTube’s policy clearly bans live content depicting capital punishment, listing it among prohibited materials with no exceptions for executions. Similarly, Meta’s Violent and Graphic Content policy explicitly prohibits live streams of capital punishment, with no provision for compliance.

TikTok’s policy rejects the glorification of violence, but its lack of detail on live broadcasts creates ambiguity. The situation reflects differing corporate approaches to enforcing existing restrictions, particularly regarding the interpretation of public interest exceptions.

Sarah Julia – The Fear That This Is Real: Ein zweistimmiges Folk-Debüt aus Amsterdam

A Klondike Gold Rush log cabin in Dawson City, Yukon, preserved through restoration

A Klondike Gold Rush log cabin in Dawson City, Yukon, preserved through restoration

Historical records place the Gold Rush Cabin in Dawson City, Yukon, by 1900, with early connections to the Trading & Exploring Company during the waning Klondike Gold Rush. The cabin survived the decline of Dawson’s population, which dropped from tens of thousands as many buildings were abandoned or dismantled.

By the early 2000s, the cabin’s logs had deteriorated and the structure leaned dramatically, requiring a guy wire for support. In 2005, it was dismantled, with each log numbered for reconstruction using traditional splicing techniques. The restoration revealed remnants such as an older sod roof beneath the tin roofing, traces of a chimney fire, newspapers, denim pieces, and pages from a poem titled Despondency, as well as preserved hand-painted wallpaper above a doorway.

After repairs, the numbered logs were reassembled, and the cabin resumed operation. More than a century after its appearance in Dawson’s records, it remains standing overlooking the Yukon River, offering seasonal overnight stays from May to September through Whitehouse Cabins, part of the Government of Yukon’s Dawson North Historic Sites Walking Tour.

Pentagon to livestream execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan

The Pentagon’s scheduled public execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the man who opened fire at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009, is set for December 3. Hasan, a former Army Medical Corps psychiatrist, killed 13 fellow service members and injured 32 more. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated the event will be livestreamed for the public.

Hasan entered a clinic at Fort Hood and used a laser-sighted handgun. He represented himself at trial, admitted responsibility, and was found guilty on all charges. He remains eligible for a habeas petition, which could delay the execution.

The request for a firing squad was denied in Tennessee, where such a method is not legal. The public livestream marks a significant development in the execution process, as the event is now intended for widespread viewing.
